Book Tour and Preorder announced for Nathan Larson’s debut novel, The Dewey Decimal System

February 14th, 2011

The Dewey Decimal System by Nathan Larson

“After a flu pandemic, a large-scale terrorist attack, and the total collapse of Wall Street, New York City is reduced to a shadow of its former self. As the city struggles to dig itself out of the wreckage, a nameless, obsessive-compulsive veteran with a spotty memory, a love for literature, and a strong if complex moral code (that doesn’t preclude acts of extreme violence) has taken up residence at the main branch of the New York Public Library on 42nd Street.

Dubbed “Dewey Decimal” for his desire to reorganize the library’s stock, our protagonist (who will reappear in the next novel in this series) gets by as bagman and muscle for the New York City’s unscrupulous district attorney. Decimal takes no pleasure in this kind of civic dirty work. He’d be perfectly content alone amongst his books. But this is not in the cards, as the DA calls on Dewey for a seemingly straightforward union-busting job.

What unfolds throws Dewey into a bloody tangle of violence, shifting allegiances, and old vendettas, forcing him to face the darkness of his own past, and the question of his buried identity.

With its high body count and snarky dialogue, The Dewey Decimal Systempays respects to Chandler, Hammett, and Jim Thompson. Healthy amounts of black humor and speculative tendencies will appeal to fans of Charlie Huston, Nick Tosches, Duane Swierczynski, Victor Gischler, Robert Ferrigno, and early Jonathan Lethem.”

HELP HAITI!

January 15th, 2010

We’re sure you’re aware of the massive tragedy that has stricken Haiti. If you were looking for some simple ways to help out, here’s some good ones……..please consider the below…

love and thanks,
A Camp

Easy and quick: Text “HAITI” to 90999 to donate $10 to the Red Cross. We did this, kindly think about doing it too, it takes 5 seconds.

Also note, these organizations are raising funds for relief efforts:

Oxfam

Doctors Without Borders

LONG-TERM SUPPORT: Crucial recovery and rebuilding efforts are always underfunded in comparison to immediate relief efforts. We saw this in the wake of Katrina as well as the Tsunami. Following are some organizations and projects working on long-term recovery efforts that have a long-standing, grassroots presence in Haiti. Here are three that have distributed staff in the country now and are well positioned to aid in the long-term recovery effort.

Partners in Health

Fonkoze

The Lambi Fund of Haiti

These organizations have been vetted by our dear friends at Air Traffic Control, a San Francisco-based nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting musicians and their managers on activism, philanthropy, and political activities.

Thanks again!!!! xoxo

The show was a success, and the reviews are flowing in. See below for a great review from Spinner.com, and click here for some beautiful photos from TimeOutNY.com.

“With the extra hands forming a mini-orchestra of sorts, the addition of strings, horns, a flute, saxophones, piano, percussion and guitar made the night’s bill as ‘A very special evening with A Camp’ exactly that indeed.” – Spinner.com
